Ed Branley

The New Orleans History Guy

Holmes, Krauss, Maison Blanche and The Rise of Canal Street as a Premier Shopping Destination

Many New Orleanians still remember when Canal Street was THE place to go to see and be seen, to dress up and go shopping at all the lovely downtown department stores in their full glory, bursting with the newest fashions and the newest merchandise, and maybe even to grab a bite to eat at the Holmes Cafeteria or the lunch counter at Krauss.

Ed Branley's informative and entertaining talk, rich with visuals, brings to life this golden age of Canal Street and charts just how anchor stores, such as D.H. Holmes, Krauss, and Maison Blanche came to be and how they spurred and shaped Canal Street's rise as New Orleans' premier shopping destination!
