Learning Before Lunch is a monthly series of talks designed to spark meaningful conversations about the local community of New Orleans. Come together with friends and neighbors to hear entertaining and well-informed speakers discuss their passions: captivating explorations of the people and places that make New Orleans one of the world's most interesting cities.
Learning Before Lunch enters the new decade with a wide range of speakers and topics of interest to the general community. The monthly speakers we are lining up for 2020 include entrepreneurs, musicians, scientists, artists, economists, and a host of other talented individuals with fascinating stories to tell.
Join us on the second Thursday of each month, on the campus of the University of New Orleans (see map), for coffee, socializing and an entertaining hour with our featured speaker. All in a convenient location that offers free parking!

Laura Kelley is an immigrant and ethnic historian at Tulane University. She is the author of the award-winning novel, The Irish in New Orleans, a colorful, amusing and often adventurous history of the Irish in New Orleans.

Conserving Biodiversity in Threatened Ecosystems
Nicola M. Anthony
Professor of Biological Sciences at UNO
Dr. Nicky Anthony’s interests in evolutionary biology and conservation genetics has led her to the tropical forests of Peru, the lowlands of Central Africa, and closer to home in Louisiana. She will discuss the initial findings of a collaborative venture between UNO and the Audubon Nature Institute to improve wildlife sustainability in threatened ecosystems and zoo populations.
